KNX • FM was the ultimate reflection of the laid back LA lifestyle during its broadcast years from 1973 to 1983. Broadcast on 93.1 on the FM radio dial, it was a bold departure from the record charts that drove the playlists of most other radio stations. "The Mellow Sound" was more about the actual sound than it was about playing artists that were the most popular of their day.
This programming approach attracted hundreds of thousands of loyal listeners, and also attracted many rising musical artists, whose careers were launched or supported by the playing of their unique mellow rock, folk and even some country influences. KNX • FM was critical to the earliest career successes of famous artists, most of whom have outlasted the station's format. This long list of artists includes Janis Ian, Seals & Crofts, Jennifer Warnes, Men at Work, Steely Dan, Karla Bonoff, Bonnie Raitt, Neil Diamond, Carly Simon and many others.
We have worked hard to recreate and preserve KNX • FM in its most native state. You'll enjoy the original artists and their "deep tracks." You'll also hear the voices of some of the earliest and original hosts and personalities, And finally, listeners will also enjoy many of the original station jingles, or "mini songs", which celebrated KNX • FM and the lifestyle it represented.
Thanks for tuning in! We would love to hear your suggestions for additions to our playlist, or ideas to make your listening experience even better. Please reach out to us at firstname.lastname@example.org. And please enjoy KNX • FM, "Where The Music Is."
